In Colorado, AfricAid benefits from a new state income tax refund donation option
This year, Coloradans will have a chance to donate from their state income tax refund to a local nonprofit they trust like AfricAid.
Through the new Donate to a Colorado Nonprofit program, taxpayers can choose to support any eligible Colorado-registered charity with a simple designation on their state income tax return. Previously, taxpayers could choose only from one of 18 causes approved by the Colorado Legislature.
If you are due a Colorado income tax refund, taking action is simple:
- Decide how much of your state income tax refund to donate (all or a portion of it).
- Enter AfricAid and our registration number 20043004756 in the Donate to a Colorado Nonprofit Fund line on your state tax return or tax software. Or give this info to your tax preparer when you share your tax documents.
The Donate to a Colorado Nonprofit program, which takes effect starting this tax season, is being promoted through an educational campaign called ReFUND CO. More information is available at RefundWhatMatters.org.
In 2018, Colorado returned more than $1 billion in state income tax refunds averaging $563 apiece to over 1.9 million individual taxpayers, according to the most recent data available from the Colorado Department of Revenue. If taxpayers choose to donate just a portion of their refunds this tax season, the surge of support will give much-needed funding to community nonprofits like ours across Colorado.
“We are so grateful to the Donate to a Colorado Nonprofit program for giving our Colorado neighbors a new and easy way to support our work,” said AfricAid Executive Director, Jessica Love. “By raising more funds in this way, we will be able to support more mentoring opportunities for secondary school girls in Tanzania. These programs are proven to help keep girls in school and focused on their futures – and that is truly a priceless gift.”
